Upskilling & Reskilling @ Interaction Design Foundation: A Review

Interaction Design Foundation offered up-to-date materials in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, and UX and what’s cool about it is that as a member, you can take up as many UX courses as you wish with no additional cost. Yes, they are free! And that’s exactly what I did as an attempt to upskill and reskill myself. You may want to check out the courses offered at https://www.interaction-design.org/courses, delivered by the key players in UX. What’s cool and interesting about it is that there is no time limit so you can adjust to your hectic, busy schedule and try to complete the courses at your own pace and time. No pressure! Well, a bit if you target to be the best in class.

I enrolled in Human-Computer Interaction course and what I love the most about it is that it was delivered by the guru himself, Professor Alan Dix in the most brilliant, thought-provoking manner, but with the simplest examples possible. Loved it! The timing couldn’t get any better as soon after completing the course, I was assigned to teach HCI and the course indeed opens up my view on things I used to do everyday as a lecturer and researcher. It deepens my perspective as how I can improve the learning content and teaching and learning activities that would stimulate my students to creatively make their design decision.

Basically, the Human-Computer Interaction course covers the following topics (Interaction Design Foundation):

· An introduction to all aspects of Human-Computer Interaction

· How to carry out the design process involved in interaction design, navigation design, and screen design

· How cognition and perception, which encompass attention, memory, thought, the “senses” play a role in affecting the experience of interactive design

· How emotion affects user experience

· How to implement windowing systems, applications, architectures, and frameworks

· How to evaluate user experience using numbers and statistics

To obtain a certificate, you must score more than 70%, just like this one I received:
